If you're down in New Orleans for a bachelor party, etc. you gotta get off Bourbon Street. Here's some of the best stuff we found that's worth the extra 10 minute walk.
701 Tchoupitoulas St (at Girod St), La Nouvelle-Orléans, LA
Bar · Central Business District · 117 conseils et avis
Dens: Last time I was here I drank 2 & 1/2 Kate's Koolers. Four hours later I was beating my buddy with a "Caution: Wet Floor" sign and throwing another buddy's luggage in a drunken rage. Beware.
613 Royal St (btwn Toulouse & St. Peter St.), La Nouvelle-Orléans, LA
Lieu servant des petits déjeuners · French Quarter · 218 conseils et avis
Dens: Best brunch around. 100x classier than any other place you'll find on Bourbon Street. Try everything (literally), it'll take you 2-3 trips to the buffet.
1241 Decatur St (btw. Governor Nicholls St. and Barracks St.), La Nouvelle-Orléans, LA
Coffee Shop · French Quarter · 102 conseils et avis
Dens: Great escape from Bourbon Street if you're in town for a bachelor party, etc. Quick coffee, some art on the walls, and far enough from the stench of last night's Bourbon Street regrets.
941 Bourbon St (at St Philip St), La Nouvelle-Orléans, LA
Rade · French Quarter · 378 conseils et avis
Dens: Worth checking out if yer on Bourbon St. They say it's oldest bar in the US (1772, pre-independence!) tho I think there's 3-4 other bars claiming the same. Would be classier w/out the ATM & jukebox.
1001 Esplanade Ave (Burgundy), La Nouvelle-Orléans, LA
Restaurant américain · Marigny · 74 conseils et avis
Dens: Great spot for a hungover Sunday brunch off Bourbon Street. Biscuits + gravy & poached eggs are the way to go. Super spicy bloody mary too (take one to go!). Oh, and a jazz band.
Épicerie fine · French Quarter · 30 conseils et avis
Dens: Another great example of "even one block off Bourbon St & everything is 1000x better". Steak sandwich was great. Pro tip: get the grilled cheese as an appetizer.
435 Royal (at St Louis St), La Nouvelle-Orléans, LA
Boutique d'antiquités · French Quarter · 8 conseils et avis
Dens: One block off Bourbon Street and filled with antique swords, guns, knives, etc... don't miss the old US dollars and the knife-gun-brass-knuckle combo weapon. Ka-pow!
