Over the summertime, earlier flights are much less turbulent. After 11-noon, it gets bumpy.

Best food in all terminals... Paradise Bakery! Don't forget to ask for a spoon or a fork if you need one as they don't offer it up. Finding out you need one on the plane isn't pleasant!
You have to go outside for the alternate security check point. Do it for a much shorter line!

PDX has two security gates. If it's busy at one, the other is usually dead. There's a connecting hallway around back so you can still get to your gate.

Frequently no line at 9am at UAL terminal B TSA/security checkpoint for 10am flights. Plenty of seats at gates. Quiet. No chaos.
All flights to Los Angeles are out of commuter terminal. Eat elsewhere, food is boring and mostly unhealthy. Free WiFi and friendly staff throughout, even the TSA folks.

Visit the top floor of TPA parking garage. Morning/evening are the best due to the rising/setting sun. Free access to the garage for first hour. Stunning views of the bay, Tampa, and runways!

The terra cotta colored couches and chairs in Welcome Lounge B (Baggage Claim Level) are super comfortable - great spot to chill for a minute.
