Where to eat & drink sherry
1. Bodegas Hidalgo 'La Gitana'
Frances James: Very hospitable bodega with delicious wide range of sherries. Probably our fave bodega of the region
2. Albores
Frances James: Delicious upscale food. Seafood was excellent
3. Bodega Lustau
Frances James: Good (small) tour and tasty sherries. Interesting to try manzanilla and fino from jerez and el puerto next to each other.
4. Bodega Valdespino
Frances James: Giant bodega, unique in that they have more criaderas than any of the other bodegas we visited. A little out of town.
5. La Carbona
Frances James: Lovely upscale dining in a converted sherry bodega. Seafood is killer, as are the sherry pairings. You can also order a la carte.
6. Tabanco El Pasaje
Frances James: Fun tapas/sherry bar with flamenco on certain nights (google it). Any tapa with cheese and or tuna is going to be delicious and cheap.
7. Tabanco Las Banderillas
Frances James: Authentic locals tapas bar. Great seafood (try the fatty tuna grilled if they have it!) and they have an oxtail stew that's the house speciality.
8. Alcázar de Jerez
Frances James: Smaller version of the Alcazar in Seville, still impressive. Lovely moorish architecture.
9. Restaurante El Faro
Frances James: OMG this place was so good. Anchovies two ways with pepper salsa was amazing, as was the smoked salmon with whitefish salad. Go here.
10. Bodega Gutierrez Colosia
Frances James: Missed getting a tour from our friend-of-a-friend, but solid family owned bodega with good sherries.
