Perfect for young families. A safe flat beach, easy waves for the kids, good rock and sand pools when the tide is out, relatively sheltered. The playground is a nice bonus too.
Perfect for camping. Being several hours from Auckland you'll probably want to stay a few nights at the camping ground and make the most of one of the most scenic beaches around.
Perfect for city-side families. If the east coast bays are too far then Mission Bay is a good alternative. Looks good, great playground, modest surf and lots of expensive cafes nearby!
