Built immediately after the war in 1949. It commemorates the 80K dead in the battle for Berlin. The theme is "courageous death." Memorial is lined with stone sarcophagi with Stalin quotes.
In fall 2008 the Airport Tempelhof closed. These days cyclists, street windsurfer, families and inline skaters turn the runways into their own personal playground.

Ruins of the porticus of the former Anhalter Bahnhof railway station that was built from 1876-1880 to a design by Franz Schwechten and was, apart from the fragment in this picture, destroyed in WWII.
Its just 6 Euro to see all the exhibitions here. The building alone is worth that money.
Go inside and discover the 3 colored stained glass windows called "Man and Nature", "Science and Man" and "Man and the Cosmos", 1962, by Walter Womacka. You will find them at the end of the east wing.
This 18th c. square is home to some of the city's most historical structures: the St. Hedwig's Cathedral, and the Old Library (where Karl Marx and the Grimm brothers studied, and Einstein taught).
By the end of the GDR era, there were more than 200 of these towers along the Berlin border. Today, it is the only surviving watchtower of its kind.

Nothing to see inside, just a pictures exhibition. They charge extra to climb to the dome and it's just an empty room. Very disappointing.

Very nice lake to go for a swim or just walk around or have a beer and German fast food in the north end of the lake. Quite full during warm summer days, but fortunately there's a lot of space around.

The Korean, Japanese and Chinese gardens are really beautiful places to visit. Authentic pieces of the world in Berlin. Highly recomended to pay a visit to!
The small island kept its fairytale character over the centuries. A special feature: the free-roaming peacocks and some water buffalo, which act as natural lawn mowers. Wonderful for taking a walk.
