Built soon after the 1906 earthquake, the Roxie is San Francisco’s oldest operating movie theater and one of a handful of surviving single-screen cinemas in the city.

After a brief stint as a porn theater, Roxie now operates as a not-for-profit movie house. It hosts everything from out-of-print releases and cult classics to the occasional local comedy showcases. En savoir plus

I value their independent movie selection. It's the SF gem. Seating is odd tho, saving the best viewing area for the use if a hall way...

One word: documentaries. Also worth going to their catered "Up The Oscars" event where the awards are presented on the big screen and costume contest winners get year passes. Owned by a cult.

On weekend nights, you can hear the music from the bar next door. On the plus side, really interesting movie selection. Weirdly, cash only for tickets but credit cards ok at concession stand
  • Kendal C.
Nice little indie theater. They accept MoviePass but you can also purchase tickets online in advance!

The oldest continuously running movie theatre in the USA, since 1909. Home to many great film fests including the San Francisco Green Film Festival in 2014.
