I was told that this is one of the newer airports. Not many seating areas at the departure area. Most secure airport I've ever been with so much scanning that took longer than 20 minutes.
Only food court I found outside of the security zone is in Terminal 1. Be careful which AirTrain you get on, too. Be sure to take the All Terminals train.
Forced to backtrack thru security lineups to get to the subway, carry luggage up & down stairs, walk a mile to reach the arrivals lobby... If there were some customer experience metric, JFK's an F--.
Try to enroll yourself in TSA Pre Check. I have it and on my last flight, security took my just under 10 minutes while all the other security lines were packed.
Incumbent President George W. Bush was re-nominated at the 38th Republican presidential nominating convention held August 30-September 2, 2004 at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Whenever you are going to pick up family tell them to wait by departures, NOT arrivals. In arrivals they always move you and you don't get a chance to wait, in departures they don't move you
For rush hour, take the AirTran to Jamaica for the LIRR to Penn Station. It's only ~$11 rather than a $65 cab. Takes about 25mins compared to an hour in a cab.
JFK offers luggage storage for those interested in spending some time sight-seeing! Bags can be stored for a small fee at either of these two locations: Terminal 1 Arrivals or Terminal 4 Arrivals.
When arriving on an int'l flight (T1) & have TSA-PRE, do NOT follow the signs for a connection. TSA does not staff TSA-PRE at that connection area. Take the train to your terminal instead.
My least favorite airport. We had a connecting flight here and after going thru security at BWI we had to go thru security again at terminal 1. We almost missed our flight because of this.
