From the subway, you have to go up the stairs. You can find the bathrooms next to Fridays.
Self-service ticketing and very punctual trains.
Use the bathroom across the street at the mall or at the "gates" for Amtrak, not the main waiting area. All other ones were built on hobo burial grounds.
There are work areas with plugs in the Amtrak waiting area directly behind track 9.
Some electrical outlets in the NJ Transit/Amtrak waiting area don't work, so make sure to check if your device is actually charging after you plug in.
Walk with the crowd, meaning with purpose. I hate when people who have no idea where they're going stop at the top of the escalators blocking everyone else trying to get through

Eating a falafel on NJTransit much more difficult/messier than anticipated - do not recommend!
Grab an Aunt Annie's pretzel dog around the corner from the main NJT marquee. The Aunt Annie's kiosk in front of the toilets is aptly stationed.
buy your ticket last minute while standing in line, but use your iPhone to do it. sometimes they have empty seats on booked buses and you can skip the line.

The Acela blocks access to Netflix on their WiFi. Resort to 3G for your entertainment experience.
Dan HoodAoût 8, 2013The Main Gate Area is seriously the worst place you can wait for an LIRR train here if you actually want to get a seat. You are better off waiting by the Central Corridor (by Kmart) or anywhere else.
Crowded, dirty, trains rarely on-time and utterly Rude employees at the Amtrak. But- don't forget to try the vegetarian chili, delightful!
New jersey transit and Amtrak suck more then the $10 homeless prostitutes in the station and there pretty good too.
Zaro's Bake Shop has delicious muffins and black and white cookies.

if ur lookin for nj transit tickets and the line is long, go downstairs there are tix machines there as well
Getting in on Amtrak? Skip the line and catch a cab at the south east corner of 31st and 8th instead.- It's like that guy in broad city says: it's kinda a deal breaker
Save yourself some misery - get here 30 minutes early for your train.
Don Pepi Pizza (near the Krispy Kreme): cheap and good. A welcome surprise.

most nyc cab drivers wouldn't be caught dead picking up a passenger straying from the penn station taxi stand lines, so don't waste time trying to find a cab, go straight to one of the two taxi stands

Gotta go coffee and bagel from Zaro's. Best option by far.
One of the only express trains to huntington. Make sure you get to Penn by 6:20 to get a seat. It gets crowded!
This place is busy as heck. Be ready to combat the crowds!
Don't double up with someone if there is an open seat nearby!
