For our favorites here, the restaurant must be located either right on the square, or one block in any direction. Food trucks qualify, but who knows if they'll be there, so try 'em when you see 'em!

Village Voice: Yes this place is crazy expensive, but the quality of the sushi ranks in the top 5 in the city. The weekday lunch special allows even the most common of us to sample their fare (in small quantities..)
Village Voice: Yes, it's actually a restaurant, and surprise, their specialty is authentic Brazilian! Get the shrimp baiano, a shrimp stew from Bahia, that comes with kale, fried plantains and plenty of white rice.

Village Voice: The Carne Asado taco will knock you over the head with the smoky taste of the meat. Though the guacamole is optional, make sure to pay up because without it your taco will be severely diminished.

Village Voice: Prepare yourself for the ultimate gutbomb: the Peruvian burger is a messy, bizarre culinary wonder. It features a runny fried egg, fried plantains and several sauces. Roll up your sleeves and dig in!

Restaurant de nouilles · Union Square · 402 conseils et avis
Village Voice: Though this joint is famous for its noodles, we say go for the grilled pork chops. They're sliced razor thin, flame grilled and coated with a thin sweet sauce and presented with all the trimmings.

Village Voice: The chicken milanesa here is like none other. The chicken cutlet so delicately crumbed and perfectly fried, with a salad on top and salty notes from pecorino, it can't be beat.

Village Voice: The Goodburger Classic is exactly that. The patty is cooked to order and meaty tasting and the toppings are of unassailable quality. It's a pretty damn good burger!

Village Voice: The carnitas tlaycoyo are incredible: hand-patted masa dough topped with crema, greens, cheese, cilantro, avocado and a salsa of your choice (green) over a bed of pork. What more could you want?
Restaurant falafel · Union Square · 43 conseils et avis
Village Voice: The vegetarian platter here is full to the brim of falafel, grape leaves, baba ganoush, tabouli, raw onions, pickled peppers and more! It's definitely enough to share, but we sure didn't.

Village Voice: Ennju serves up Japanese eats at bargain-basement prices. Get katsudon: it's made to order out of pork cutlets that are fried and served with rice and eggs cooked up with scallions
